The vision of Horticulture policy of the Department is to increase the area, production and productivity of horticulture crops in Magadh Division. The office of Assistant Director Horticulture, Magadh Division was established in 1989 vide letter no. 13405 dated 07.11.1989
Name of the office and designation of the post was changed as Deputy Director Horticulture, Magadh division, Gaya vide Agriculture Department notification no. 2298 dated 27.05.2014. The main function of Deputy Director Horticulture, Magadh division, Gaya is to monitor and functioning of horticultural schemes of the Department in the five districts of Magadh Division i.e. Gaya, Jehanabad, Arwal, Nawada and Aurangabad. It is our endeavour to increase the area, production and productivity of horticultural crops by providing new scientific techniques trainings under various departmental schemes.

Horticulture Scenario at Aurangabad
District Horticulture Office, Aurangabad under the directorate of horticulture, Department Agriculture, Govt. of Bihar implementing various horticulture development program. Various Farmer’s training program also conducted with the collaboration of ATMA (Agriculture Technology Management Agency), Aurangabad & Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Aurangabad. With the joint effort of field level Worker/Officer, District level Officer, Scientist and various horticultural schemes assistance created a tremendous change in horticulture scenario of Aurangabad.
- Strawberry : The cultivation of a day neutral variety (winter down and Chandler) strawberry started in the year 2014 by Sri Braj Kishore Mehta, Kutumba in 0.30 acre only which is now increasing continuously and expanded up to 115 acres. Strawberry farmers are getting technical advisory and subsidy assistance on farming, plastic mulching, drip irrigation etc. from departmental scheme. Strawberry planting time is October-November on raised beds with a spacing of 25 cm x 20 cm and planting material (runner with 4-6 leaves) 22000-24000 per acre. For vegetative growth 15-35 C temperature is required while for flowering and fruiting 14-18 C is required with a good sunshine of 8-10 hours/day. Strawberry fruits are very attractive, highly perishable in nature and mainly consumed fresh. Harvested at 75% ripen stage well suited for transportation and sold to the distant market like Patna, Ranchi, Bokaro, Dhanbad, Jamshedpur & Kolkata etc. Initial investment is upto 4 lakhs per acre and total earning upto 8 lakh with intensive use of manpower i.e. 4-5 labour per day/acre. The major privilege for the strawberry growers is availability of good transportation connectivity due to G.T. road.
- Muskmelon : Mostly grown as relay crop with strawberry on raised beds with drip & plastic mulch in Kutumba, Amba and Obra blocks. The average yield of adopted varieties are up to 18-20 MT/acre.
- Apple : An unique variety of apple (HRMN-99) suitable for Tropical & Subtropical region introduced in Aurangabad under Special Horticulture Crop Scheme.
- Betelvine : The Farmers are basically growing Magahi Pan in Bareja, It fetches good price due to having GI tag of Bihar. Magahi Pan are mostly grown at Deo Block in nearly 9 acre.
- Bee-Keeping : Started with assistance of NHM in Aurangabad, Kutumba and Daud Nagar Blocks.
- Guava : Cultivated at Baluganj, Deo Block through high density planting techniques in 25 acre.
- Banana : Tissue Culture Banana (G-9) recently introduced and the area is increasing gradually.
- Mentha : Mentha is grown as a cash crop and are being cultivated for essential oil. Mainly in Aurangabad, Deo, Nabinagar, Barun and Rafiganj blocks with an area of approx 200 acres.
- Mushroom : Oyster and button nushroom production as subsidiary farming alike cash crops gaining popularity in the district.
