Overview of Health Scenario
Magadh Division, comprising Arwal, Aurangabad, Jehanabad, Gaya and Nawada districts, occupies an important position in the State's Health Scenario and caters to the health needs of over 10 million people. All these five districts are positioned in the top 10 districts of the state as per district ranking system of State Health Society Bihar revealed about two years ago.
of the five districts of Magadh division, 3 districts namely Aurangabad, Gaya, Nawada are aspirational districts where the focus is to improve India's ranking under Human Development index, raising living standards of its citizen and ensuring inclusive growth of all. The Delta ranking of health published by NITI Aayog, GOI in December 2021 shows Nawada, Gaya , Aurangabad occupy 1st, 2nd and 70th rank respectively among the 112 Aspirational districts across India.
Equity in health and equity in health care have been a longstanding guiding principles, with commitment to serving the needs of the poor and underprivileged being central to the priorities of Magadh Division. Variations in Male and Female literacy rate, religious beliefs, castes, LWE affected areas, AES/JE epidemic are some important determinants socio-economic inequities in nearly all spheres of well being in Magadh Division. Despite these challenges, the districts under Magadh division out-perform many districts and remain above the State average in many key health indicators. As per NHFS 5 (2019 - 2020), Arwal, Aurangabad, And Nawada are much higher than the State average of 4 or more ANC coverage. Similarly, percentage of deliveries assisted by health personnel of all districts is either at par or higher than State average. Percentage of children age 12-23 months who received all basic vaccination is considerably higher than the State average for all districts except Jehanabad districts.
